Healthy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you enjoy a soft cookie and like the perk of it being heart healthy, this may be your recipe. Based on the Banana-Maple Oatmeal Cookie, I created this one using flaxseed, pear sauce, oatmeal, chocolate chips, and whole wheat flour.

You will need:
1 TBSP ground Flaxseed
3 TBSP water
1 cup Quick Oats
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
0.5 TSP Baking Soda
0.5 TSP Baking Powder
0.5 TSP Salt
1 TSP Ground Cinnamon
1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
0.5 TSP Vanilla Extract
0.5 cup Maple Syrup
0.5 – 1 cup Pear Sauce (or Applesauce)

Follow the cooking directions from Banana-Maple Oatmeal Cookies.

Did you know, ground flaxseed is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and also plays a key role in preventing and/or reversing diabetes, cancer, constipation, inflammation, and heart disease as well as reducing the symptoms of menopause and so much more? Read about it at Flax Health.

Enjoy,

Banana-Maple Oatmeal Cookies

I just happened to stumble across a new cookie recipe from Fat-Free Vegan Kitchen. I quickly noticed it uses ripe bananas which we just happened to have available.

I followed the recipe just as it is written, choosing ground flaxseed as my egg substitute. Though I really wanted to use chocolate chips instead of raisins, I decided to hold them for the 2nd batch.

The kids and I truly enjoyed every last bite. It does have a banana flavor similar to banana bread, but the oatmeal gives it the cookie texture. Overall, this is yet another great alternative to the traditional cookie that uses butter and sugar. I highly recommend giving them a try, taking them to the next baked goods sale, offering them at parties, or for a healthy school snack, etc.

Enjoy my friends,
-Angela
