The Anti-Inflammation Detox Diet

If you’re suffering from an auto-immune disease, vaccine injury, arthritis, or inflammation, then this diet is for you! Below is a how-to guide along with resources to help you get started. It’s important to note that routine blood work should be done to check homocysteine, blood sugar, iron, B12, and D3 levels to monitor your progress and help identify any key deficiencies or absorption/inflammation issues.

Key Items to Know Before Starting:
A. There are 4 key books/resources recommended to have on hand to help you through your detox. They are:
1. The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M. Campbell II
2. 80-10-10 Diet by Dr. Douglas Graham
3. The Gerson Therapy by Charlotte Gerson and Morton Walker, D.P.M.
4. Alkalizing Cleanse by Dr. David Klein

B. The general guideline for calorie intake while detoxing is about 2000 calories a day. You may need more if exercising. Restricting calories or trying to do a deficit calorie diet will not allow you to detox or heal. YOU MUST EAT AND BE NOURISHED!

. The China Study

D. 80-10-10 Diet is an anti-inflammatory diet that is based around the concept of eating fresh, raw produce, keeping your % of carbohydrate calories at 80%, 10% for fat, and 10% for protein. This diet prohibits all animal foods (meat, dairy, eggs), wheat/gluten, oats, nuts (except Brazil Nuts used as a supplement), and beans (legumes). It restricts/limits oils, vinegars, pepper, garlic, and many herbs. Note: Majority of produce naturally falls in the 90% carbs, 5-7% fat, 5-7% protein. Avocado is a great example of a fruit that does not meat the majority of produce as it is extremely high in fat. Thus, you can only eat half an avocado per day or every 2 days. To understand why this is so important, please read the book. The key point is understanding that diets higher than 10-20% fat not only cause inflammation, but they prohibit your ability to digest sugars. This is why Paleo and traditional diabetic diets prohibit or seriously limit fruit and high glycemic foods. These diets include and push high protein and fat intakes. This in turn prohibits your ability to process the sugars in high glycemic fruits and veggies.
Important to note: In the back of this book are sample menus. Each menu gives you suggested meals for an entire day and provides the basic nutrition breakdown. This is a wonderful teaching tool! You can follow them to a T or you can use it as a guide to help you plan your own simple menus.

E. Gerson Therapy is a great resource and has been used to treat HIV, Cancers, and to detox the liver. It is a wonderful tool to have, but one must understand that several of the foods listed as safe to consume on this treatment do not line up with the detox program homeopathic doctors are using to heal people. Please follow the foods listed as safe in the 80-10-10 Diet book and the Alkalizing Cleanse ebook.

F. Alkalizing Cleanse

There are a few options for how you can approach this detox. You basically have the Fast Detox Method vs Slow Detox Method:
A. The fastest approach to detoxing would be through a 2 week diet of freshly made fruit and vegetable juices using only raw organic produce. The Gerson Therapy book gives guidelines for juicing in chapter 9 – Thirteen Glasses. Because all of your nutrition will be through juices, you should plan to drink at least 104 ounces (or 17-20 pounds) of juice. If this is not enough nutrition/food for you, then add 3 80-10-10 raw vegan meals (or whole fruits/veggies). After this initial 2 week period, you can continue with having 24 ounces of fresh juice paired with each 80-10-10 raw vegan meal for as long as you need to detox OR simply eat all meals as 80-10-10 raw vegan.  *Most of your juices should be green juices or a mix of fruit and greens. You can not sustain on a fruit juice diet and the lack of fiber will spike blood sugar. To prevent this you must focus on green juices.
B. The slower approach to detox is more of a transitional diet and uses a combination of raw and gently cooked foods. Some refer to it as Raw Til 4. Essentially, you focus on eating 2/3 to 3/4 of your meals as 80-10-10 raw vegan and then eat one meal or part of one meal that is gently cooked and falls in the 80-10-10 range based on calories.

Trouble Shooting:
1. If your blood sugar is spiking, it may be from eating too much fat, inflammation of the bowel, or not eating enough leafy greens.
2. If your iron levels are low, it may from inflammation of the bowel or not eating enough leafy greens.
3. If your B12 or D3 levels are low, you will need to supplement. This detox diet will not provide you with natural means for making B12 unless you are harvesting produce from your garden, not washing it super well, and eating it within a day or two from harvest. The Global Healing Center has wonderful B12 and D3 supplements available.
